About

An independent firm that tests B2B AI tools.

Yardstick Research is a software research and consulting agency for B2B AI categories. We test every vendor on the same rubric, score the results, and put the methodology in plain sight. So any buyer can check our work.

Who we are

Yardstick Research is an independent firm founded in 2026. The product is the Yardstick Report. The audit is the lead. Everything else flows from that order.

We are not a research-analyst firm in disguise. There are no enterprise contracts, no vendor sponsorship tiers, no syndicated data subscription, no advisory practice on the side. The reviews are not a side effect of a consulting business; they are the business.

Funding comes from two sources, both disclosed: paid Yardstick Reports sold directly to readers, and affiliate commissions on some vendor links. That's it. The funding model is the methodology. When the only revenue line is "buyers paid us," the incentive points the same direction the writing does.

Why we exist

The B2B AI tooling market is opaque in a way that costs buyers real money. Vendor websites are sales sheets. Demos are theater. Reference customers are pre-screened.

Most analyst reports adjacent to this category are commissioned by the vendors they cover, syndicated to enterprise subscribers, or both. The incentive structure is upstream of the writing, and the writing reflects it. Buyers know this, which is why they end up winging it on demos and back-channel references: slower, less rigorous, and still wrong half the time.

Yardstick exists to do the work buyers don't have time to do themselves: evaluate every vendor in the cohort using the same defensible mix of public information, free-tier hands-on, and cited third-party benchmarks; score against the same published rubric; and publish what is measured, what is estimated, and what is cited. Methodology in plain sight. Vendors don't pay for inclusion, placement, or ranking.

How we make money

Two revenue lines. Both disclosed. Nothing else.

  1. 01

    Yardstick Report. Three tiers

The Yardstick Report ships in three depths, personalized to your industry and the readiness stage your audit lands you in: Quick-Start Playbook (the focused playbook for the stage you're in now), Strategic Roadmap (all four stages mapped to your stack), and Full AI Deployment (everything in Strategic Roadmap plus a CFO-defensible ROI model). Each tier ships a PDF + PPT immediately after checkout, with pricing shown at checkout. Every claim is labelled MEASURED, ESTIMATED, or CITED so the buyer knows what evidence sits behind it. Sold directly to buyers, no reseller, no syndication, no enterprise tier. See what each tier delivers to

  2. 02

Affiliate commissions on some vendor links

Where the guide links to a vendor's product, that link may earn us a commission. Disclosed on every page where the link appears. The commission rate does not affect the score, the ranking, or whether the vendor is included in the cohort. A vendor we score badly stays in the guide. A vendor without an affiliate program stays in the guide.

What we do not take money for: paid placements, sponsored content, "thought leadership" trades, vendor research contracts, advisory roles at vendors, white-labeled reports, or briefings sold back to vendors. If a vendor offers any of the above, we say no in writing and keep the email.

What we're working on

Our first cohort is AI sales agents. The active Yardstick Report that the audit on this site is calibrated for. The next cohort is shaped more by what buyers ask for than by what is easy to write.

Categories we're considering for later cohorts:

  1. A

    AI customer-success agents

Tools that automate health-scoring, churn-risk surfacing, and renewal outreach. We're considering this one because the buyer profile (post-sales leaders) overlaps with the sales-agents reader, and the rubric translates cleanly: same approach of public information, free-tier hands-on, and a published category-specific rubric (with ease of data integration & accuracy as the make-or-break dimension across every Yardstick cohort).

  2. B

    AI marketing-content agents

Tools that generate, personalize, and dispatch outbound marketing assets. Considering it. The methodology gets harder here because "good content" is partly subjective, and we'd need to build a fairer scoring approach before testing.

  3. C

    AI revenue-operations tools

Forecasting, pipeline hygiene, deal-risk surfacing. Considering it. RevOps buyers are sophisticated, the existing vendor field is crowded, and there's appetite for a rigorous teardown.

None of these are committed. If a category isn't on the list and you wish it were, the email below is the way to push it up the queue.
