Cognism
Founded: 2016 (James Isilay) [CITED] Headquarters: London, UK [CITED] Funding: ~$130M across rounds (AXA Venture Partners, Oliver Wyman, Netcetera); Series C in 2023 at ~$450M post-money [CITED — Tracxn, GetLatka, Crunchbase] Current CEO: Dominic Allon (appointed Feb 26, 2025; previously CEO of Pipedrive). Founder James Isilay retains an active on-camera presence; Allon does not yet have a discoverable 2025–2026 podcast/video interview as Cognism CEO. [CITED — Cognism newsroom] Archetype: AI-augmented sales-intelligence layer (Tier C — assistant on top of a B2B data graph; not an autonomous AI BDR)
ICP (vendor-stated, verified against marketing): EMEA-heavy outbound teams in regulated verticals — FinTech / RegTech / AML compliance, insurance, EU-led B2B SaaS — that need GDPR-grade contact data and AI-assisted prospecting on top. Named customers include ComplyAdvantage (RegTech/AML), YuLife (insurance), and SingleStore (database). Dimension scores (0–4)
| Dimension | Weight | Score (0–4) | Evidence |
|---|---|---|---|
| Personalization quality | 25% | 2 | MEASURED — "AI Search inside Prospector is shipping product, not roadmap. Natural-language and voice query (multilingual → EN translation), one-click ICP-fit summary" (cognism.md §Strengths #4); Cognism surfaces account snapshots and personalization angles for the human/sequencer to use, but does not generate the email body. "AI features are a thin wrapper around the core data product, not an autonomous agent" (Weaknesses #4). |
| Deliverability infrastructure quality | 20% | 0 | MEASURED + CITED — Category caveat: no warmup, no domain rotation, no inbox-placement scoring in product surface. 0 because absent-by-design. |
| CRM integration depth | 15% | 3 | CITED + MEASURED — "Native: Salesforce, HubSpot, Pipedrive, MS Dynamics 365, Bullhorn, Outreach, Salesloft. Chrome extension overlays LinkedIn + the same CRMs" (cognism.md §Strengths #5). Chrome-extension behaviour on LinkedIn corroborated by independent third-party walkthrough (demos/cognism.md V5, Dec 2024). |
| Cost-per-seat efficiency | 15% | 2 | ESTIMATED — Sales-gated; third-party-triangulated to ~$15K platform fee + ~$1,500–$2,500/seat/yr; "5-seat team total: ~$22,500/yr Grow, ~$37,500/yr Elevate" (cognism.md §"Pricing summary"). No free tier; annual upfront. |
| Setup time | 10% | 2 | MEASURED + CITED — Sales-gated signup; once provisioned, Prospector + Chrome extension is fast for daily use. Onboarding fee $500–$1,500 reported. |
| UI / UX | 10% | 2 | MEASURED — Sales Companion launch (March 2025) unifies Prospector + Chrome extension + AI Search into single workspace, video-corroborated (demos/cognism.md V2, V3, V5). "Chrome extension cannot get information details from some LinkedIn leads, especially from countries in Asia" — warmly.ai/p/blog/cognism-review (cognism.md §Weaknesses #2). |
| Data accuracy | 5% | 4 | MEASURED — "Diamond Verified mobile data: 98% phone-verified accuracy and 87% prospect-connection rate vs. ~30% industry average; database refreshed every 30 days" (cognism.md §Strengths #2); "200M European contacts" with EU contact depth ZoomInfo and Apollo demonstrably can't match (Strengths #3); 15-country DNC list checks vs. ZoomInfo 8, Apollo 2 — broadest in cohort. |

Pricing tiers (CITED — third-party triangulation across Salesmotion, Amplemarket, Landbase, UpLead, Skrapp, Warmly; Cognism's public pricing page is sales-gated and discloses only a "per-user subscription + credits" model)
| Tier (third-party-named) | Platform fee (annual) | Per seat / yr | 5-seat all-in (yr) | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Free / trial | none | none | none | 25-lead sample available on demo only — no self-serve trial |
| Platinum / "Grow" | ~$15,000 | ~$1,500 | ~$22,500 | Standard data + Prospector + AI Search |
| Diamond / "Elevate" | ~$25,000 | ~$2,500 | ~$37,500 | Diamond Verified mobiles, intent (Bombora), advanced workflows |
| Enterprise | sales-quoted | sales-quoted | $50K–$100K+ | Wider procurement-cited range |
Hidden costs (CITED — salesmotion.io): onboarding $500–$1,500; intent-data topics $200–$400 each (8–15 typical = $1.6K–$6K/yr); annual renewal increases reported at 10–15%; 60-day notice on auto-renewal; annual upfront, no monthly billing.
Structural pricing fact (Yardstick framing): Cognism is structurally unavailable to under-$10K-budget buyers. There is no free tier, no monthly billing, and the platform-fee floor is $15K/year before any seats are added. This is not a marketing observation — it is an architectural pricing fact that rules Cognism out of the SMB / self-serve / Foundation-stage segment.

Compliance posture (the headline differentiator)
| Item | Cognism | ZoomInfo | Apollo |
|---|---|---|---|
| GDPR posture | "Embedded by default"; Article 6.1(f) legitimate-interest framework, DPA notifications within GDPR timeframes | Compliant; less EU-specific operationalisation | States compliant; less EU-specific tooling |
| DNC list screening | 15 country registers | 8 (AU, CA, FR, DE, IE, NZ, UK, US) | 2 (UK, US only) |
| ISO 27001 | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| SOC 2 Type II | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| EU contact depth | "200M European contacts," strong DE/FR/UK | Weaker EU coverage than US | Weaker EU coverage than US |
[CITED — cleanlist.ai 2026 Cognism vs ZoomInfo comparison; cognism.com/compliance; evaboot.com.] Why this matters: for buyers whose ICP includes German, French, or Nordic mid-market companies — and especially regulated verticals (FinTech, RegTech, healthcare, insurance) — this DNC screening + notification posture is the difference between a defensible outbound program and a regulator complaint. Cognism is the only vendor in this 12-vendor cohort that materially leads on this dimension.
Editorial assessment
Compliance-first positioning is the genuine differentiator. Cognism's 15-country DNC screening, GDPR Article 6.1(f) operationalisation, and Diamond Verified mobile-number accuracy (vendor-claimed 98% phone-verified, 87% connect rate) are real assets that ZoomInfo and Apollo demonstrably cannot match in EMEA. For an EU-led ICP in a regulated vertical, Cognism is the default answer to "which data vendor will pass procurement." Outside that profile, the value proposition narrows: APAC data quality is a documented gap (Warmly, Skrapp), the AI layer is a wrapper around the data product (not an autonomous agent), and the structural pricing — sales-gated, $15K platform-fee floor, annual upfront — locks Cognism out of any SMB or Foundation-stage buyer pocket. The Sales Companion launch (March 2025) unified the Prospector + Chrome extension + AI Search surfaces into a single workspace, and the SingleStore customer testimonial (300% SDR dial lift, on-camera) is the strongest video-corroborated quantitative outcome in the dossier. Leadership transition note: Dominic Allon (ex-Pipedrive CEO) took the chief-executive seat in Feb 2025; no public 2025–2026 video as Cognism CEO has surfaced — flagged in the right-of-reply window.
Best for
EMEA-heavy outbound teams in regulated verticals (FinTech/RegTech/AML, insurance, EU-led B2B SaaS) with $20K+ data budget, phone-led + email outbound motion, and a GDPR-grade compliance posture required. 5–500+ reps. Stage fit: Scale (yes), Optimization (yes), Pilot (conditional — only if ICP is EU-heavy), Foundation (no — $15K platform-fee floor rules it out).
Not for
US-only SMB or Foundation-stage teams (no free tier, $15K floor, annual upfront), APAC-led ICPs (coverage gaps), self-serve / PLG buyers (sales-gated demo only), buyers expecting an autonomous AI BDR (Cognism is data + AI Search, not Ava/Alice).
