Dimension scores

Dimension Score Weight Weighted Evidence
AI capability depth 2.4/4 15 9.0 [VENDOR-CLAIMED] AI features in CRM Advise / Ellucian Student are built on Microsoft Copilot (message personalization, engagement trend analysis) and Power Automate (workflow automation). Predictive analytics for at-risk student identification are included. Gaps: AI features are primarily Microsoft-stack orchestration rather than proprietary model development; no published accuracy benchmarks for predictive models; no disclosed LLM fine-tuning for higher-ed contexts. [https://www.ellucian.com/solutions/ellucian-crm-advise]
Workflow integration depth (SIS/LMS) 4.0/4 25 25.0 [VENDOR-CLAIMED] Ellucian owns Banner (the largest SIS in US higher ed by institution count) and Colleague, and acquired Anthology SIS in 2025. CRM Advise / Ellucian Student Success integrates natively with Banner and Colleague - the data model is shared, not API-mediated. This is the sole higher-ed advising vendor for which SIS integration is a first-party asset. For LMS, Ellucian's Ethos integration platform connects with Canvas, Blackboard/Anthology, D2L/Brightspace, and Moodle via standardized APIs. The Anthology acquisition also brought Blackboard LMS history into the Ellucian portfolio. Native SIS ownership justifies 4.0/4; no competitor can match integration depth at this layer. [https://www.ellucian.com/about, https://www.ellucian.com/solutions/ellucian-student]
Vertical specialization 4.0/4 15 15.0 [VENDOR-CLAIMED] 100% higher-ed focus; 57+ years in the sector; Gartner Magic Quadrant Leader. Serves community colleges, R1 research universities, HBCUs, international institutions. The Anthology acquisition extended coverage into Blackboard LMS and Anthology SIS environments. [https://www.ellucian.com/about]
Implementation + time-to-value 1.6/4 10 4.0 [VENDOR-CLAIMED + THIRD-PARTY] Ellucian's own record of 26 SaaS go-lives in Q1 2026 (one quarter, across all products) implies a typical deployment cycle measured in quarters, not weeks. Banner SaaS migrations are multi-year projects at large institutions. CRM Advise deployments layered onto existing SIS infrastructure require IT alignment, data mapping, and training across advising, IT, and academic affairs. Third-party accounts describe 6-18 month implementation timelines for enterprise Ellucian rollouts. The longest implementation timeline in this cohort. [https://www.ellucian.com/news]
Data + compliance posture (FERPA) 3.2/4 15 12.0 [VENDOR-CLAIMED] FERPA compliance is structurally embedded - Ellucian processes FERPA-covered student records as the SIS provider, not just as an advising overlay. SOC 2 Type II reported via Trust Center. TX-RAMP Level 2 for cloud products. Gaps: public FERPA attestation URL not surfaced separately from SIS product documentation; ISO 27001 not confirmed publicly; HITRUST CSF not mentioned; audit dates not publicly enumerated. [https://trust.ellucian.com/]
Pricing + scalability 3.2/4 5 4.0 [VENDOR-CLAIMED] Enterprise contract model; no per-user fees for institutions on the Ellucian ecosystem. Soft pricing penalty applies: no public rate card. Scalability is strong within the Ellucian ecosystem but depends on maintaining the broader SIS/ERP relationship. [https://www.ellucian.com/solutions/ellucian-crm-advise]
Vendor strength + named-customer evidence 3.2/4 15 12.0 [VENDOR-CLAIMED + THIRD-PARTY] 3,000+ institutions globally; Gartner Magic Quadrant Leader; named customer outcomes (Muskegon CC graduation rate lift). The 2025 Anthology acquisition adds 260+ institutions and expands the named-customer base. Vendor strength is very high; named customer evidence for CRM Advise specifically (vs. SIS) is less prominent in public materials than for Navigate360. Pricing detail

Ellucian Advising (CRM Advise) is sold as part of the Ellucian ecosystem - typically bundled with Banner or Colleague SIS, and now positioned under the "Ellucian Student" unified platform. No public pricing is available. Pricing is negotiated as part of broader Ellucian institutional contracts, which cover SIS licensing, implementation services, support, and any additional modules.

The soft pricing-transparency penalty (−5 points) applies per the Yardstick rubric. Institutions that are already Ellucian SIS customers typically negotiate CRM Advise as an add-on module rather than as a standalone purchase; standalone pricing for institutions not on an Ellucian SIS is less common and likely significantly higher due to the integration overhead.

Integrations

Ellucian's integration posture is uniquely strong in this cohort because it owns the SIS layer:

SIS (native/first-party): - Ellucian Banner - native data-model integration; CRM Advise reads student records, enrollment, course registrations, grades, and financial aid data directly. [VENDOR-CLAIMED - https://www.ellucian.com/solutions/ellucian-crm-advise] - Ellucian Colleague - same native integration model; Colleague is Banner's sibling SIS product for the liberal arts and community college market. [VENDOR-CLAIMED - https://www.ellucian.com/about] - Anthology SIS - acquired 2025; integration depth in active development under the Ellucian Student umbrella. [VENDOR-CLAIMED - https://www.ellucian.com/about]

SIS (via Ethos platform - third-party): - Workday Student, Oracle PeopleSoft Campus Solutions, Jenzabar: connectivity available via Ellucian's Ethos integration layer and Marketplace. Depth varies; native Banner/Colleague depth does not extend to non-Ellucian SIS. [VENDOR-CLAIMED - https://www.ellucian.com/solutions/ellucian-student]

LMS (via Ethos and Marketplace): - Canvas (Instructure), Blackboard/Anthology (now part of Ellucian portfolio via Anthology acquisition), D2L/Brightspace, Moodle - available through the Ellucian Ethos integration platform. Canvas and Blackboard are the two dominant US higher-ed LMS environments; Ellucian's Anthology acquisition also incorporated the Blackboard LMS history. [VENDOR-CLAIMED - https://www.ellucian.com/about]

Other integrations: - Microsoft 365 (Copilot, Power Automate) - embedded in the AI advisory features. [VENDOR-CLAIMED - https://www.ellucian.com/solutions/ellucian-crm-advise] - EduNav (acquired 2024) - academic planning and degree pathway tools now native to the Student Success suite. [VENDOR-CLAIMED - https://www.ellucian.com/about]

Editorial assessment

Ellucian Advising (CRM Advise) occupies a structurally unique position in the higher-ed CRM cohort: it is the only product for which SIS integration is a first-party asset rather than an earned API relationship. When an institution running Banner or Colleague licenses CRM Advise, the advising layer and the SIS share a data model. There is no sync job, no field mapping exercise, no API rate-limit concern - the student record, enrollment status, course registrations, grades, and financial aid data are all native. This is why the workflow integration score is 4.0/4, the same as EAB Navigate360, despite Navigate360's larger installed advising base. The native data depth for Banner/Colleague institutions justifies the score.

The constraint is that this advantage is narrow. It applies cleanly to Banner and Colleague institutions and extends through the Ethos integration layer to the broader higher-ed ecosystem, but Ethos-mediated integrations with Workday Student or PeopleSoft do not carry the same data-model intimacy as Banner native. The April 2026 Anthology acquisition expands the perimeter - Ellucian now also owns Blackboard LMS and Anthology SIS - but integration unification across those acquired assets is a multi-year project, not a completed product.

The AI capability score of 2.4/4 reflects a choice to build on Microsoft's stack (Copilot, Power Automate) rather than develop proprietary models. This is a legitimate architectural choice - it reduces AI development overhead and benefits from Microsoft's rapid model iteration - but it means Ellucian's AI differentiation is currently parity with what any Microsoft 365 enterprise could assemble, not a proprietary higher-ed intelligence layer. Predictive analytics for at-risk student identification are present but not published with accuracy benchmarks.

Implementation time-to-value is the cohort's weakest score at 1.6/4. Ellucian's own record of 26 SaaS go-lives in a record quarter - across all products, including major SIS migrations - implies that deployments routinely take multiple quarters. For institutions adding CRM Advise to an existing Banner/Colleague contract this timeline compresses; for institutions considering Ellucian as a new advising platform alongside an existing SIS, the timeline is the longest in the cohort. Institutions with a 6-month deployment mandate should consider Mainstay or Civitas Learning instead.

Right-of-reply

Ellucian received this tear-sheet seven calendar days before publication of the Yardstick Research 2026 Yardstick Report, including all measured numbers, sample outputs, and editorial assessment. Ellucian was given the opportunity to flag factual errors - incorrect pricing, misquoted feature availability, outdated screenshots, factual misstatement in the editorial assessment. Ellucian was not given the opportunity to request a score revision, dispute the rubric or its weights, withdraw from inclusion, negotiate ranking placement, or suggest changes to the editorial assessment beyond factual correction. Where Ellucian flagged a factual correction, the correction was applied if verified and noted here; where Ellucian disputed scoring, the dispute is recorded in the appendix but the score stands. Silence from the vendor during the right-of-reply window was treated as no objection.
